Chapelle D'Abondance/Braitaz

The Braitaz lift at La Panthiaz is about 10 minutes drive from Chalet Piplin. Take the main road towards Chatel, pass through Chapelle D'Abondance and look for signs on your right signposted "Domaine Skiable de Panthiaz". There is a gondola across the road and up to the ski area which links with the Super Chatel ski area. Skiing from Panthiaz is really only suitable for intermediates and advanced skiers - the return to the gondola includes many testing runs including an icy steep red path - enough to kill the confidence of most beginners but offers good challenging skiing for intermediates.

From here you can ski to Torgon and all the good runs in that area - a good days ski there and back. Alternatively take the free bus back from Chatel to Chapelle if you've left the car there.

Chapelle D'Abondance/Cret Beni

Cret Beni is about 5-10 minutes from Chalet Piplin. Take the main road towards Chatel and before you reach Chapelle D'Abondance, just before the church, look for the signs on your right signposted "Domaine Skiable de Cret Beni". Cret Beni is a good area for intermediate skiers and confident beginners. You could spend either a long half day or full day in this area.

The parking at Cret Beni is easy, just a few yards from the two chairs to the top of the mountain. Beginners should take the chair on the right (two-man) as this allows them to ski off near the restaurant, half way up the mountain. At the top of the mountain are some challenging reds and a blue run for confident beginners.

The restaurant has a good sun terrace and deck chairs - a great place to people watch and/or wait for other skiers.

All of the blue runs are good confidence builders. There is a long green run back to the car park, or you can take the chair down, or indeed those of you with a death wish may like to take the steep icy red run back to the car park which ends conveniently near the cabinet de medicale!

Generally this is a good half-day ski for intermediate skiers and enjoyed by many.

Chatel

Another alternative would be to take the Super Chatel lift up from the town, ski across to Morgins (worth a visit as is a lunch stop by the "bells" in the village) on to Champoussin and Les Crosets, however it is a long day skiing for most groups.

If you want a good lunch stop in the sun with deckchairs, try the restaurant at the side of the double drag TK de Chalet Neuf..
