how it all began...

We have skied the 'Portes du Soleil' for almost 20 years now, and still love it. It's so vast that we don't get bored - with 650kms of piste that would be difficult!

We started skiing over 35 years ago, taking package holidays to Canada, America, Switzerland, Austria, Italy and France but one Easter we stayed in a friend's apartment in Evian and because there was good snow we commuted to the slopes of Les Gets and Morzine each day. Quite a commute, but we're Londoners, so to us a mere walk in the park.

Each evening we bought bread and plain chocolate at the boulangerie to eat on the drive back, and it was heaven. We were younger then! We returned the following Christmas with our sons and the love affair was sealed.

After that we rented an apartment in Les Gets and then, with friends, found a lovely chalet in La Grande Terche, to which we returned for several years, until we were lucky enough to find Chalet Piplin.

During these years we have skied much more of the area, using various points of access and loving every minute, just as we have loved the skiing in other resorts, but this is our favourite. The Portes du Soleil pass covers all the areas.

Using the links on the left, we'll try to give you a few tips and recommendations and would welcome your views after your holiday, that we might pass on to others.
